Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday, April 8 in an East Coast Conference match-up on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth, but could not hold on, falling 5-2. The loss drops Adelphi to 12-16 overall and 5-6 in ECC play, while Bridgeport improves to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

The Purple Knights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Adelphi answered in the in the top of the fourth when a Mike Mongiello single scored Bill Melillo and a Rob Paccione single to left center brought home Chris Weidlein, giving Adelphi a 2-1 lead.

Bridgeport responded in the bottom of the fifth, sixth and seventh as the Purple Knights put up single runs in the fifth and sixth and two runs in the seventh to put the game away 5-2.

Paccione, Mongiello and Weidlein collected two hits each as Paccione and Weidlein each drove in a run. Keith Couch picked up the loss, but pitched six strong innings, giving up just two earned runs and striking out six.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 9 when they travel to Rockville Center, New York for a 3:30 pm meeting with Molloy College.
