Carter Leads Adelphi Past Bentley, 17-13

Waltham, Mass. - Freshman Kaitlyn Carter tallied four of her five goals in a second half rally, including the game-winner to lift the #4 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team past Bentley College, 17-13. The Panthers improve to 7-0 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 4-5.

Sophomore Allison Tumulty scored the first of her three goals in the opening minute of play on an assist by Michelle Ceraso. Ceraso followed with an unassisted play to make it 2-0. The Falcons quickly tied the score, 2-2, on back to back shots. Sophomore Danielle Kafarski's free position goal sparked a 3-0 Panther run, 5-2, with 17:41 left in the half. Both team traded goals before Bentley rattled off three unanswered points to knot the score for the second time, 6-6, at 10:43. Ceraso put Adelphi up again on a feed from Ceraso, followed by a solo shot by junior Rachel Ray, 8-6. The Falcons struck again, this time taking the lead on three free position goals, 9-8, at 4:16. The Panthers trailed by one at the half.

The Falcons' rally extended into the second half, 10-8, scoring at 23:41. Carter took over, scoring the next four Adelphi goals, including the game-winner at 19:45 on a free position play. Her last unassisted goal at 19:11 made it 12-10. The Panther defense stepped up, as the Falcons, who had registered 17 shots in the first half, were held to just eight in the second. Kafarski scored two of the final five Adelphi goals, one on an assist by Carter, to help the Panthers build a 17-13 cushion through the end of regulation.

The Falcons were led by Beth Gendron with four goals. Alyssa Ritchie and Kim Morris each had two goals and one assist.

Sophomore Caitlin Fitzpatrick had 10 stops in the win. Christina Guglielmo made 15 saves for Bentley.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 9, as they travel to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
