The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to Bridgeport, Connecticut to take on East Coast Conference (ECC) foe the University of Bridgeport. The Panthers tied the game at two in the top of the ninth, but could not complete the comeback, falling 3-2 in 14 innings. The loss drops Adelphi to 12-15 overall and 5-5 in the ECC, while Bridgeport improves to 6-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Panthers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth. However, the lead was short lived as Bridgeport countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The score would remain 2-1, until Adelphi knotted the game at two, with a run in the top of the ninth before falling in 14 innings, 3-2.
Mike Scudero threw six innings for Adelphi, giving up two runs and striking out seven. Rob Nixon and Jason Intelisano also pitched well as Nixon tossed four innings, allowing just two hits and no runs and Intelisano pitched two innings of scoreless relief.
Pat O'Neill and Mike Colonna swung the hot bats for Adelphi as O'Neill was 3-4 with one RBI and Colonna hit 3-6 with one run scored.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 8 when they travel to Albany, New York to take on the College of St. Rose.
