The pitching trio of seniors Julie Schaper and Samantha Tilton, along with sophomore Christine Robinson combined for just two hits as they led the Panthers to a 3-0, 8-0 shutout of Post University in non-conference action this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 16-12, while Post falls to 11-13.
Game One
An error by the third baseman put Panthers on in the second inning as pinch runner Allison Rice advanced to third on a SAC bunt by junior Angela Martin. Junior Kristin Brennan singled to drive in the unearned run.
In the third, a single by freshman Stephanie Byster drove in juniors Samantha Johnston and Diana DiPiano to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
Schaper (8-2) was solid in 6.0 innings on the mound, allowing no hits, while walking three and fanning six. An injury in the outfield pulled her off the mound to fill in as Tilton allowed one hit in relief to collect the save.
Adelphi had three runs on 10 hits with no errors. Post had no runs on one hit with one error.
Game Two
In the second inning, DiPiano doubled and Martin walked, setting up a two RBI single by junior Christina O'Hara to put the Panthers up for good. DiPiano made it a 4-0 game in the third inning as she singled to drive in Vogt and Brennan.
A solo home run by Schaper in the fourth extend Adelph's lead to five runs. Junior Jessica Vogt, who went 2-3 with two runs scored, followed up with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. The Panthers last run came off a Post error with DiPiano scoring the run.
Robinson (2-3) pitched the one-hitter, walking two and striking out three in 5.0 innings.
Adelphi had eight runs on eight hits with two errors. Post had no runs on one hit with one error.
The Panthers return to action this Saturday, April 5, as they host Bryant College at 12 noon.
