Junior Rachel Ray dished out seven assists, setting a new Adelphi single-game assists record in the process, along with one goal to lead the #3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a convincing 20-6 win over Bryant University. The Panthers improve to 14-0 while the Bulldogs drop to 9-7.
Prior to the start of the game, Adelphi honored its graduating seniors Lauren Belle, Jennifer Fucich Caitlin Hilbert and Megan Metelenis. They also sold pink t-shirts and raffled off four pink lacrosse shafts with proceeds benefitting the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Center.
A total of nine different players scored for Adelphi, with sophomore Allison Tumulty and freshman Michelle Ceraso each contributing four goals, while freshman Kaitlyn Carter chipped in three goals and one assist.
The Panthers rattled off six unanswered goals before the Bulldogs got on board with back to back goals at 17:05 and 15:33. Sophomore Vanessa Sotcheff and Metelenis had two goals apiece in a 6-0 run that put Adelphi up 12-2 with 4:10 left in the first half. After a third Bryant goal at 2:45, Tumulty accounted for two of the final three goals to make it 15-3 at intermission.
The rally continued into the second half with Carter scoring her third goal in the first 30 seconds of play. Sophomore Brittany Fronczak netted her two goals at the 24:33 and 23:01 mark, one on an assist by Bennett. The Bulldogs managed to outscore the Panthers 3-1 in the remaining minutes. Freshman Marisa Lisi accounted for the last Adelphi goal at 10:26 on a feed from sophomore Nicole Lieberman.
Sophomore Caitlin Fitzpatrick had five stops in 41:25 minutes in goal. Junior Christina Kozakiewicz added three saves in relief.
Adelphi is back in action on Tuesday, April 29, as they host Molloy College in its regular season finale at 8:30 p.m.
