Junior Rachel Ray cooked up a game high of five points (2G, 3A)
as #3 Adelphi University defeated Dowling College, 16-3, at Golden Lions Field. The win
improves the Panthers record to a flawless 13-0, 4-0 in ECC play as
Dowling drops to 7-5, 2-3 in conference play.
Adelphi's defense led by sophomore goaltender Caitlin Fitzpatrick, who stopped 11
shots, was dominant and held Dowling to three goals on the afternoon. The
Panthers kept Dowling off the board for the first 26 minutes before
Kelly Cefalu (East Islip, NY) deposited a feed from Samantha Messineo
(Shirley, NY) for Dowling's first goal. At halftime, the Golden Lions
trailed 9-1.
In addition to Ray, freshman Kaitlyn Carter had five points (3G, 2A), and sophomore Vanessa Sotcheff (1G, 2A) and freshman Michelle Ceraso (2G, 1A) had three points each to
lead Adelphi.
Brianna Falesse (Centereach, NY) and Vanessa Moriera (Selden, NY) had
the additional tallies for the Golden Lions. Moreira also had a game
high six ground balls.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 26, when they host Bryant College at 5:30 p.m. at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, New York. The Panthers will host a "Think Pink" day and will raffle off several of their pink lacrosse shafts along with other prizes. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
