The Adelphi University baseball team played host to Pace on Wednesday, April 2 in a non-conference game on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers used three pitchers, holding Pace to just three hits in a 4-1 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 12-13 overall.
The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Rob Paccione led the inning off with a walk and then stole second. He came home on a Thomas Harper single. Harper eventually came home, scoring Adelphi's second run on a Pat O'Neill ground out.
Pace got one run back in the top of the second, but a Matt Barle sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the second scored Chris Weidlein, making the count, 3-1. Adelphi tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was more then the Panthers needed as Mike Bartlett, Jason Intelisano and Weidlein shut down the Pace line-up.
Bartlett threw six innings striking out six and gave up just one hit, while Intelisano threw two innings of scoreless relief. Weidlein pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
Harper continued his hot hitting, going 1-4 (picking up one of Adelphi's two hits) and collected an RBI and scored a run.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 5 when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut for an ECC double header against Bridgeport.
