The #3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team tallied 17 unanswered goals en route to a 20-2 conference victory over Philadelphia University tonight at James Shuart Field on the campus of Hofstra University. The Panthers improve to 11-0 and 3-0 in the ECC, while the Rams fall to 7-3 and 1-2.
FreshmanKaitlyn Carter led all scorers with four goals. Freshman Michelle Ceraso along with sophomores Allison Tumulty and Vanessa Sotcheff each added a hat trick. Junior Rachel Ray tallied four assists to go along with two goals for a team-best six points.
The Panthers took control from the opening draw as Tumulty scored on a feed from Ray at 29:33. This sparked a 12-0 run through the end of the first half. The rally continued in the second half with Ceraso picking up two goals in the 8-0 run. Sophomore Danielle Kafarski accounted for the last Adelphi goal with 5:00 left in regulation.
Philadelphia denied Adelphi the shutout as they scored back-to-back goals in the final 1:46 of play.
Sophomore Caitlin Fitzpatrick had nine saves in 55:00 in goal for Adelphi, with junior Christina Kozakiewicz stepping in the net in the final five minutes with one save. K. Staerk mad 16 stops for Philadelphia.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, April 23, as they travel to Dowling College for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
