Kuchta Leads Adelphi Past #4 Dowling, 13-8

Hempstead, N.Y. - Sophomore Ian Kuchta poured in three of his game-high seven goals in the second quarter as he led the #8 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 victory over #4 Dowling College this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 6-4 and 1-2 in the ECC, while snapping an eight game win streak by the Golden Lions (10-2, 2-1 ECC).

Sophomore Devin Schneiderbauer was stellar in goal, and along with the Panther defense, held the Golden Lions scoreless through the first half.

Adelphi built up a 8-0 lead with Kuchta and senior Chad Henry each scoring in the first quarter. Back-to-back goals by by Kuchta, with Henry and junior Edward Ege on assist, started the second quarter. Seniors Tyler Burton and Marc Burton chipped in one goal each in the rally.

Kyle O'Brien scored twice for Dowling in the third quarter, but so did Kuchta to keep the Panthers up by eight, 10-2.

Both teams traded goals to start the fourth quarter when Dale Pescitelli scored on a feed from Marc Burton with 13:13 remaining, 11-3. Ege, who dished out five assists in the contest, tallied his first goal of the day on what would be the last for Adelphi, at 9:39. The Golden Lions seemed to pick up steam with a 4-0 run in the remaining minutes, but fell short as the Panthers held the ball as time expired.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, April 30, as they host Dominican University at 12:00 noon at James Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University.
