Softball Splits With #21 Georgian Court

Game One|Game Two

Lakdwood, N.J. - Junior Kristin Brennan's two run homer in the third inning drove in the game winning run as the Adelphi University softball team topped #21 Georgian Court in game one, 8-2, before dropping game two, 4-1. The Panthers are now 27-17 while the Lions are 29-9.

Junior Jessica Vogt went 4-6 with one run scored and three RBI.

Game One
Senior Dely Francisco and Brennan each scored unearned runs in the third inning with help from an error by the GCU outfield. Francisco picked up her second run in the third inning after reaching on an error at first base, setting up Brennan's two RBI home run to put the Panthers up, 4-0. The Lions answered with a solo home run by Walker to start the third inning. The Panthers added three more runs in the fourth and fifth to push the lead to 7-1. Senior Diana DiPiano, who went 2-4 with two runs, doubled to left field at the top of the seventh, crossed home plate on a RBI single by Vogt, 8-1. GCU added a second run in the bottom of the inning.

Senior Julie Schaper gave up just three hits in six innings, with one run (earned), while walking two and striking out nine.

Adelphi had eight runs on 12 hits with no errors. Georgian Court had two runs on five hits with two errors.

Game Two
Walker added her second home run of the day in the first inning on what would prove to be the game-winner for the Lions. By the end of the third inning, GCU had opened up a 4-0 advantage. Junior Samantha Johnston doubled in the fourth inning, later scoring on a SAC fly by Vogt to prevent the shutout. Sasko (21-4) held the Panthers to just one hit over the final three innings to maintain the win.

Freshman Leighann Bell (4-4) struck out five in the four-hitter, with four runs, three earned.

GCU had four runs on five hits with one error. Adelphi had one run on five hits with one error.

The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, April 19, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas at 1:00 p.m.
