The Adelphi University baseball team played host to cross town rival C.W. Post on Tuesday, April 15 in an East Coast Conference game on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. C.W. Post moved out to an early 5-1 lead, but Adelphi cut the margin to three runs, 6-3, before falling 10-3. The loss drops Adelphi to 13-20 overall and 6-10 in the ECC.
The Pioneers struck first, using a two run single in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead. C.W. Post tacked on two more runs in the top of the third on two more single, making the score 5-0 in favor of the Pioneers.
Adelphi got one run back in the bottom of the third on a Mike Testani single to right field that allowed Rob DeGennaro to cross home plate, making the score 5-1. The Panthers made the score 5-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a Ryan Boelsen single to left that scored Rob Paccione, cutting the margin to three runs, 5-2.
C.W. Post added a run in the sixth and Adelphi countered with another score in the seventh on a Chris Weidlein single to keep the game close at 6-3. However, the Pioneers blew the game wide open in the eighth with four runs, putting the game out of reach at 10-3.
Mike McLasky was credited with the loss for Adelphi, giving up five runs in just 2.2 innings of work, while Kevin Gerard went the distance for C.W. Post in the win, striking out six.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, April 17 when they host Kutztown at 3:30 pm in Garden City.
