The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to West Haven, Connecticut on Sunday, April 13 to close out a three-game series with the University of New Haven. Adelphi's bats came alive, racking up 17 hits and 12 runs to snap a six-game losing streak with a 12-2 win. The victory improves Adelphi's overall record to 13-19 and 6-9 in East Coast Conference play.
The Panthers wasted no time, getting on the board in the top of the first inning. Mike Testani reached base on a dropped fly and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. He then stole third and was driven home on a Bill Melillo fielder's choice, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead.
Adelphi put another run on the board in the top of the third as Testani reached base again and crossed the plate on a Chris Weidlein sacrifice fly that put the Panthers up 2-0. New Haven knotted the game at two in the bottom of the sixth on a two run double.
A Ryan Boelsen two out double in the top of the seventh scored Mike Colonna, putting Adelphi back on top, 3-2. Keith Couch held the Chargers scoreless in the bottom of the seventh and then Adelphi put the game out of reach, knocking in six runs in the top of the eighth to move out to a 9-2 lead.
Couch picked up the win, posting a five-hit, two run, 10 strike out performance. Colonna was hot at the plate, going 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Rob DeGennaro was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 15 when they host C.W. Post at 3:30 pm on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
