April 12, 2008

Box Score

Easton, Mass. - Junior Rachel Ray tallied four goals and two assists to lead the #3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory over #6 Stonehill College this afternoon. The Panthers remain perfect at 9-0, while the Skyhawks fall to 8-2.

Senior Megan Metelenis, sophomore Holly Burke and freshman Michelle Ceraso each added two goals as the Panthers registered a season-high 14 tallies on the Skyhawks' defense.

The Skyhawks only lead came in the opening minutes from back-to-back goals from Liza Gross and Kristin Darrell. With the score 3-2 in Stonehill's favor, Adelphi closed the half with seven unanswered scores to take a 9-3 advantage at the half.

Stonehill outscored Adelphi, 7-5, in the second half, including a 3-0 run with 25:51 left in the contest, but it was not enough to challenge the Panthers. Sophomore Corinne Pingitore snapped the rally on what would prove to be the game-winning goal, as the Panthers traded shots with the Skyhawks for the remainder of the game.

Adelphi's Caitlin Fitzpatrick collected 11 saves for the Panthers in the win. She denied the Skyhawks on every free position opportunity.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday, April 15, as they take on Merrimack College at 7:00 p.m. in North Andover, Mass.
