Men's Lacrosse Upended By NYIT, 12-11

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team played host to NYIT on Saturday, April 13 in an East Coast Conference match-up on the campus of Hofstra University. The Panthers pulled to within one goal, 12-11 with seven minutes left to play but could not get any closer. The loss drops Adelphi to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Adelphi struck first as Jessie Corben scored just five seconds into the action, however NYIT responded with four straight goals over the next four minutes to take a 4-1 lead. Dale Pescitelli scored off of an Edward Ege assist, cutting the margin in half. Adelphi and NYIT closed out the quarter by exchanging goals, entering the second period with the score 5-3 in favor of NYIT.

The Panthers opened the second quarter hot, reeling off three straight goals, to take a 6-5 lead. NYIT scored three goals of their own, and Adelphi answered with three more goals, to knot the game at eight just one minute before the half. The Bears notched one more goal, giving NYIT a 9-8 lead at the half.

Each team scored two goals in the third, making the score 11-10 and setting the stage for the fourth quarter. The Bears scored just 38 seconds into the fourth, giving NYIT a two goal cushion. The Panthers kept attacking and it paid off, as Adelphi's Chad Henry notched a goal with 6:59 to play, pulling the Panthers within one, 12-11. However that was as close as Adelphi would get, falling by the same score.

Devin Schneiderbauer played all 60 minutes for Adelphi, making 17 saves in the loss, while Chris Powers picked up 12 saves and the win for NYIT.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 19 when they play host to Dowling College at 4;00 pm.
