Adelphi Softball Sweeps Franklin Pierce

Game One|Game Two

Leominster, Mass. - The Adelphi University softball team extended its win streak to six with a 4-0, 4-2 doubleheader sweep of Franklin Pierce this afternoon at Lassie League Field. The Panthers improve to 22-14 while the Ravens fall to 3-21.

Game One
Junior Jessica Vogt tripled at the top of the second inning then crossed home plate on a single by junior Angela Martin for the game-winning run. The Panthers added three more in the third inning, with senior Dely Francisco recording her second homerun of the season. Freshman Stephanie Byster followed up with a single that scored juniors Samantha Johnston and Kristin Brennan.

Senior Julie Schaper (11-2) pitched the three-hitter shutout, walking two and fanning 15.

Game Two
Francisco put Adelphi on the board in the third when she stole home after first reaching on a single, then advancing on a hit by Brennan. The Ravens evened the score in the bottom of the inning. Senior Diana DiPiano scored Schaper on a sacrifice fly to put the Panthers back on top, 2-1 in the fifth. Vogt followed with a two RBI single to score Johnston and Brennan to give Adelphi a 4-1 lead. Franklin Pierce managed another run on a triple by Griffin, but freshman Leighann Bell gave up just one hit in the final two innings in relief to record the save.

Senior Samantha Tilton (5-1) allowed five hits, two runs, one walk and five strikeouts for the win.

Adelphi had four runs on eight hits with no errors. Franklin Pierce had two runs on six hits with no errors.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they take on UMass-Lowell in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
