Baseball Falls to Dowling in 12, 6-2

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to Dowling College on Sunday, March 30 at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers knotted the game at two in the eighth, but could not close out the Golden Lions, falling 6-2 in 12 innings. The loss drops Adelphi to 10-13 overall and 4-3 in East Coast Conference action.

Dowling got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the second, on an Adelphi miscue. The Panthers pulled to within one in the bottom of the sixth on a Chris Weidlein single to left field that allowed Billy Melillo to cross home plate. In the bottom of the eighth and two outs Pat O'Neill hit a fly to center field that brought home Mike Testani, tying the game at two and forcing extra innings.

Jason Intelisano threw two innings of perfect relief, giving up no hits, to keep the Panthers in the game heading into the 12th. In the top of the 12th Dowling scored four runs on four hits to take a four run edge, 6-2, before putting Adelphi down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 12th.

Keith Couch threw nine solid innings for Adelphi, striking out five and allowing just five hits, while Frank Valeriano was credited with the loss after pitching 0.2 innings and giving up four runs.

Adelphi returns to action on April 1 when they play host to Molloy College at 3:30 pm on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
