Adelphi's Brandon Butler scored a goal with 1:10 left in the game to lift the Panthers past the Molloy College men's lacrosse team on March 29 at John A. Darcy Field. The 10-9 East Coast Conference loss drops the Lions to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while Adelphi improves to 5-2 and 1-0.
The Panthers scored the first two goals of the game but Molloy ended the first quarter with two goals of their own to tie the game at two. The Lions and Panthers traded the first six goals of the second quarter but a goal by Keith Galante put Molloy up, 6-5. However, Adelphi's Edward Ege put one between the pipes with 32 seconds left in the second and the teams headed into halftime at six all.
Ege netted a goal for Adelphi, giving the Panthers the 7-6 edge as two minutes came off the clock in the third quarter. Brian Tempone notched back-to-back goals and Galante recorded his second goal of the game to give the Lions the 9-7 advantage late in the third.
Prior to the end of the third quarter, Adelphi's Ian Kuchta added one more to the Panther's total and cut the deficit to one (9-8). With 8:01 left on the clock, Dale Pescitelli tied the game at nine and Adelphi would take the win when Butler notched the winning goal as 1:10 remained in the game. Rob Humann recorded 11 saves for the Lions, while Drew Smith made 21 saves in net for Adelphi.
The Panthers return to action on April 5 when they travel to Brookville, New York for an ECC meeting with C.W. Post.
