Baseball Splits with Dowling

Game One|Game Two

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team split on the day against ECC conference foe Dowling College. In game one, the Panthers were unable to get on the board, falling, 5-0. In game two, Adelphi picked up a 5-4 win in extra innings to sit 10-12 on the season and 4-2 in conference play as the Golden Lions are now 12-9 and 3-3 in the ECC.

Game One

The Golden Lions jumped on the board early in the first inning, scoring four runs off of four hits. Both teams would remain scoreless up until the bottom of the seventh when Dowling scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 hold. Adelphi had runners on second and third in the top of the ninth, but Brent Lotito clenched the 5-0 victory for Dowling striking out two consecutive batters to end game one.

Bobby Lanigan was credited with the loss, throwing six innings and striking out seven as Lotito went the distance to pick up the win for Dowling.

Game Two

A pitcher's duel on the mound between Gabe Duran of the Golden Lions and Mike Scudero of the Panthers held runners scoreless in six straight innings of play. The Panthers struck first in the top of the seventh with a leadoff double to deep right by Ryan Boelson to put Adelphi on base. With two outs on the board, Chris Weidlein, smacked down an RBI double to score the go-ahead run.

The Golden Lions answered back in the bottom of the seventh to push the game into extra innings, scoring the tying run off a wild pitch (1-1). The Panthers broke open the game in the top of the ninth connecting on four hits with a Robert Paccione single to right center for a two run shot. Up by four, in the bottom of the ninth the Golden Lions fought to stay alive at the plate with the bases loaded.

Dowling drove in a run on a fielders choice to inch within three of the Panthers lead. An RBI single closed the gap to one as one run crossed the plate on the hit and another on an outfield error (4-5). The Golden Lions had an opportunity to tie the game at five but the threat was ended as a Dowling runner was thrown out at the plate. Jason Intelisano, was able to strike out Kevin Korte to end the threat and give Adelphi the win.

Intelisano was credited with the win, throwing 0.2 innings of relief as Mike Scudero pitched 6.2 innings, giving up one run and striking out five.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, March 30 when they take on Dowling College at 1:00 pm at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
