DiPiano Leads Adelphi In Twinbill Sweep Of Dominican

Game One|Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Diana DiPiano combined for 4-7 with two runs and four RBI including both game-winners in a 9-1, 1-0 sweep of Dominican College this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers extend their win streak to six games and improve to 10-10 on the season, the the Chargers fall to 1-11.

Game One
Senior Dely Francisco led off with an in the park solo homerun to put the Panthers up 1-0. Junior Samantha Johnston singled and advanced to second, then came home on a DiPiano double for the game-winning run. Junior Jessica Vogt singled and stole second before freshman Stephanie Byster walked to load the bases. Then Martin walked, pushing home DiPiano to make it 3-0. A RBI fielder's choice by junior Christina O'Hara rounded out the inning.

In the second inning DiPiano belted a two-run homer to push the Panther lead to 5-0. Johnston picked up her second run in the fourth inning, followed by freshman Deandra Leo in the fifth. The Chargers got on board in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a passed ball. Freshman Stephanie Byster made it a 9-1 game with her first collegiate homerun in the sixth.

Sophomore Christine Robinson (1-3) recorded her first win of the season, allowing just one hit in four innings pitched. Freshman Marisa Romeo pitched for 2.0 innings in relief, allowing three hits and one run.

Adelphi had nine runs on 12 hits with no errors. Dominican had one run on four hits with one error.

Game Two
The Panthers had a total of seven hits in the game, but were unable to close, leaving runners on base in each inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Johnston singled to set up a walk-off RBI double by DiPiano to give Adelphi the win.

Freshman Deirdre White (1-1) picked up her first win of the season, allowing just two hits and one walk, while fanning four.

The Panthers continue their four-game homestand tomorrow as they host return to action tomorrow as they host Pace University at 3:00 p.m.
