The Adelphi University baseball team played host to Concordia College on Monday, March 24 at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. Keith Couch threw eight shutout inning for Adelphi, leading the Panthers to a 10-2 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 9-9 overall and remains unbeaten in the East Coast Conference at 3-0. Concordia falls to 3-10 overall and 0-3 in conference play with the loss.
The Panthers started hot, loading the bases in the top of the first. Ryan Boelsen reached first on an error, which scored Rob Paccione from third. Mike Connors belted a single to left field, bringing home Adelphi's second run. A Joe Maranino single to center brought home the Panthers third run of the inning, giving Adelphi a 3-0 cushion.
In the third Adelphi tacked on two more runs, when Boelsen, stole home, followed by a Thomas Harper single to right that scored Mike Mongiello from second. The 5-0 lead was more then enough for Couch, who threw eight scoreless innings, giving up just five hits and striking out eight to earn the win.
Connors and Harper were each 2-5 on the plate, as Connors drove in two runs and scored another and Harper drove in one run. Paccione was 2-4 at the plate and scored two runs, while Maranino was 2-3 with one RBI.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they play host to Molloy College at 3:30 pm.
