The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team played host to St. Michael's College on Friday, March 21 at James M. Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University. The Panthers used a 7-0, second quarter to roll to a 18-6 win over the Purple Knights. With the victory Adelphi improves to 4-2 overall, while St. Michael's dips below .500, at 1-2.
Adelphi controlled the face-off circle, as Jesse Corben won 21 of 27 face-offs for the Panthers, jump starting the Adelphi attack. The Panthers also held advantages in ground balls (49-26) and saves (13-8).
Chad Henry and Marc Burton got Adelphi on the board early, as each player found the back of the St. Michael's net in the first five and a half minutes of action. Jake Previte answered for the Purple Knights, but Henry reeled off three straight goals, two in the first quarter and another to open the scoring in the second, giving Adelphi a 5-2 edge.
The rest of the second quarter was all Adelphi, as the Panthers ripped the Purple Knights for six more goals, two by Edward Ege, two by Ian Kuchta and one each from Dale Pescitelli and Daniel Guadet. With the score 11-4 at the half the Panthers had the game in hand and used a 5-3 third quarter to put the game away.
Henry led all players with eight goals, while Ege chipped in three goals to go along with seven assists. Kuchta found the back of the net three times, while Burton chipped in two.
Devin Schneiderbauer collected the win, stopping nine shots in just over 49 minutes of action, while Jeff Hannon was credited with the loss, making eight stops. In addition to getting the win, Schneiderbauer picked up an assist, hitting Burton down the field for the Panthers 17th goal of the game.
Adelphi returns to action on March 29 when they travel to Rockville Centre, New York to open up their East Coast Conference schedule against Molloy at 1:00 pm.
