The Adelphi University baseball team took on Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, March 11. The Panthers edged Nova Southeastern, 4-2, improving to 3-5 overall. The Sharks dropped to 13-9 with the loss.
Adelphi scored three runs in the top of the second inning and made the lead stand for the victory. Panthers third baseman Joe Maranino and second baseman Rob DeGennaro recorded RBI doubles and leftfielder Thomas Harper squeezed home a run to give the Adelphi all the runs they would need for the win.
NSU right fielder J.D. Martinez singled home center fielder Matt Mindick in the third inning and first baseman Bryan Cook hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for both Sharks runs. Martinez and Cook each went 2-for-4 on the evening, to lead the Sharks offense.
NSU starter Kevin McCourt (2-2) scattered five hits and struck out four in six innings of work, while Adelphi starter Keith Couch (1-0) went fie innings, allowing two runs, striking out two to pick up the win.
Panthers catcher Ryan Boelsen and rightfielder Mike Mongiello both collected multiple hits by going 2-for-4 to in the game.
Adelphi returns to action on March 12, when they take on Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
