Baseball Blanked by Augusta State

Augusta, GA - The Adelphi baseball team traveled to Augusta, Georgia to open the 2008 season against Augusta State. The Panthers out hit the host Jaguars, 10-6, but could not get on the scoreboard, falling 4-0. The loss leaves Adelphi with a record of 0-1, while Augusta State evens their overall mark at 9-9.

After a scoreless first inning, Augusta State opened the second inning with a single and scored on an error. Bobby Lanigan recovered, striking out the next two batters and inducing a pop up to end the inning. But the one run proved to be more then enough as Augusta State held the Panthers scoreless, picking up a 4-0 win.

Lanigan pitched five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, and struck out five, picking up the loss. Rob DeGennaro was a perfect 3-3, while Rob Paccione and Thomas Harper were each 2-3 at the plate.

Adelphi returns to action on March 1 at 12:00 pm when they play a double header against Augusta State.
