Men's Basketball Picks Up, 50-46, Win at Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, February 5 for a non-conference match-up with Philadelphia University. The Panthers turned a one-point halftime lead into a four-point victory, 50-46. The win raises Adelphi's overall record to 12-8, while Philadelphia falls to 12-11 overall.

Philadelphia took a 9-4 lead, five and a half minutes into the game, increasing that lead to 12-6 with 10:56 left in the first half. The Panthers responded with a 9-2 run to take a one-point lead, 15-14, with 6:03 on the clock. From there the teams traded baskets before Pat Luptowski sunk two free throws with 1:24 left to give Adelphi a one-point lead, 21-20 heading into the half.

The Rams took retook the lead, 29-27, on a Mike Yocum jumper with 13:52 left to play and continued to apply pressure, taking their largest lead of the half, 42-35, with 5:38. An Alvin Vivican three-pointer sparked a 14-4 run that was capped by a Richard Byrd three-pointer with 30 seconds left that gave Adelphi a 49-46 lead and the victory.

Yocum led the Rams with 13 points and five rebounds, while Jason Hickenbottom chipped in seven points and 11 rebounds. Malcolm Ingram also reached double figures, scoring 11 points and pulling down seven rebounds.

Byrd scored a game-high 16 points for Adelphi, while Sky Khaleel added 14 points and nine rebounds. Vivican also had a strong game chipping in six points and seven rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, February 9 when they travel to Sparkill, New York to take on St. Thomas Aquinas College.
