Men's Basketball Moves Past Bridgeport, 73-67

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team played host to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, February 27 in Woodruff Hall. Adelphi used a hot start to build an 39-29 halftime edge and held on for a 73-67 win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 17-9 overall and 13-6 in East Coast Conference action, while Bridgeport falls to 12-14 overall and 10-9 in conference play.

Adelphi scored the first six points of the contest before Bridgeport woke up and cut the Panther lead to just one, 9-8 with 15:45 to play. Moments later a Chris Diasparra jumper sparked a 23-7 run that spanned over ten minutes of action and left Adelphi with a 34-15 lead, on two Diasparra made free throws.

Bridgeport responded with a 14-5 spurt to close the gap to just ten points, 39-29, as time expired in the first half.

In the opening minutes of the second half the Panthers pushed the lead to 13 on an Alvin Vivican made jumper, 42-29, with 17:16 on the clock. Again Bridgeport came back, using a 8-2 run to pull to within seven points, 44-37, with 11:30 to play.

Adelphi used a 13-4 run over the next two and a half minutes to push the lead back to double digits, 57-41. The Purple Knights made one more run, getting as close as four points, with 3:56 to play, but could not get any closer, falling 73-67.

Teairez Stennis led Bridgeport with 15 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Lex James added 13 points and four boards.

Vivican led all players with a game-high 21 points and handed out four assists. Diasparra chipped in 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Sky Khaleel added 11 points and five rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, March 1 when they play host to C.W. Post at 7:30 pm in the season finale.
