Box Score

Smithfield, RI - The Adelphi men's lacrosse team traveled to Smithfield, Rhode Island on Saturday, February 23 to open the 2008 season against Bryant Unviersity. The Panthers trailed the Bulldogs, 5-0 after one period and could not recover, falling 16-7. The loss drops Adelphi to 0-1, while Bryant improves to 1-0.

The Bulldogs, looking to avenge last year's season-opening loss to Adelphi, came out strong. After a failed clear attempt on Adelphi's first possession, Bryant attacked and found the back of the Panther net just 1:20 into the game.

A minute later, the Bulldogs quickly made it 2-0 aand followed that up with three more unanswered goals in the first period to open the second quarter with a 5-0 edge. Bryant put another goal on the board in the second period before Adelphi would finally find the back of the Bryant net as Edward Ege beat the Bulldog keeper with 11:48 left in the second.

Adelphi would get within 7-3 on Ege's second goal of the game, but Bryant would counter with four unanswered score, to enter the half with an 11-3 advantage.

In the second, the Panthers used two quick tallies from Dale Pescitelli and Ian Kuchta to close the Bryant lead to 12-5 but could not get any closer, falling 16-7.

Ege led the Panthers with three goals, while Pescitelli, Kuchta, Tyler Burton and Brady O'Malley also tallied goals. Marc Burton picked up two assists in the loss, while Devin Schneiderbauer made 20 saves in goal.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, February 29 when they host Saint Anselm at 8:00 pm at Hofstra University.
