Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team played host to Northeast-10 conference opponent Assumption College on Monday, December 29. The Panthers placed four players in double figures and two more scored seven points, helping Adelphi secure a 72-66 non-conference win over the Greyhounds. With the win Adelphi improves to 6-5 overall, while Assumption falls to 7-4.

A back and forth start saw Adelphi lead by 1, 8-7 with 17:14 remaining in the first half, but the Panthers went on a 7-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 15-9 edge. From there Adelphi moved out to a 10 point lead on three occasions, the last coming on a Theresa Foley lay-up with 5:49 left in the half (29-29).

Assumption responded with a 14-5 run that was sparked by two Leslie Lupien free throws and pulled the Greyhounds to within one point, 34-33 at the half thanks to a Kayla Parker lay-up in the closing minute.

The Greyhounds took a brief lead, 37-36, just a minute into the second half on a Bethany Plasski three-pointer. But, Adelphi countered with a 12-3 run that was capped by three straight Lisa Manetta makes, putting the Panthers ahead 48-40.

However, Assumption would not fade, as the Greyhounds pulled to within four points on three different occasions, the first two times Adelphi rallied to push their lead to six but on the third try Assumption moved to just two points down, 58-56, with 6:45 to play. It would stay that way as Parker countered a Foley and a Manetta make with lay-ups to keep the margin at just two, 62-60 with 5:04 on the clock.

The Panther used a 7-0 burst to take a nine point lead, 69-60 on two Foley free throws, but the Greyhounds used a 6-0 spurt, capped by a Meredith Kelly make to pull back within three points, 69-66 with 1:06 remaining. But, that was as close as Assumption would get as the Panther would convert three of four free throws down the stretch to pull out a 72-66 win.

Parker led all players with 22 points, while Plasski chipped in 13 and Kelly added nine.

Both Serita Lee and Manetta netted 18 points and four rebounds, while Manetta added four assists. Foley and Jasmine Travers chipped in 10 points apiece and Ashley Caiafa and Danielle Parks scored seven points each.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, January 6 when they play host to Philadelphia University at 5:30 pm.
