Men's Basketball Clips Caldwell, 70-56

Caldwell, NJ - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Caldwell, New Jersey to take on Caldwell College in a non-conference meeting. The Panthers Richard Byrd led all scorers with 18 points and paced Adelphi to a 70-56 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 5-3 overall, while Caldwell falls to 3-4.

Adelphi used the first 10:27 to move out to an 18-9 lead, with the 17th and 18th points coming on a two Byrd free throws. Caldwell answered with a 12-0 run to take a 21-18 lead with 3:18 left in the half. The Panthers then trailed 26-24 with 1:13 to play in the half, but would take a one point lead, 27-26 on a Byrd triple before entering the locker room knotted at 27.

The second half continued the same way the first ended with the lead changing hands multiple times. Caldwell took a 39-35 lead with 14:58 to play on a three-pointer from Eddie Crockett, but that was the last time that the Cougars would lead, as Adelphi ripped off a 21-7 runto take a 56-46 edge on the way to a 70-56 win.

Manny Perez led Caldwell with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Crockett chipped in 10 points.

Byrd led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Casey Cosgrove added 11 points and eight assists. Mike McDuffie chipped in 16 points and Steffon Farley netted 10 points.

Adelphi returns to action on December 30 when they take on Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida.
