The Panthers played host to ASC conference rival, Howard University tonight at Competition Field to close out their home-stand and regular season. The mostly one-sided game was in Adelphi's favor as they out-shot and outplayed the Bisons to an easy 3-0 victory. With the win, Adelphi ends their regular season 11-5, 4-0 in conference play while Howard drops to 1-15, 0-4 in ASC action.
The game started with early action from senior forward, Stephen Fregosi who, just 7:22 into the game, beat Bison keeper, Adisa Bekoe for the early 1-0 lead. Adelphi, celebrating senior day on this night, continued to press on and put pressure on the Howard defense. The Panthers struck again later in the half at 34:40, but this time on a shot by sophomore Chris Clarke, who's goal third goal of the season, first of the game, put his team up 2-0 going into the second half.
The start of the remaining 45 minutes got of to a similar start as the beginning of the game with Adelphi striking first early on. Just under five minutes into the half, sophomore John Koutsounadis added an insurance goal for his team when he found the back of the net to extend the lead to three. While the score would remain the same for the remainder of the game, the Panthers showed they were the superior team by out shooting the Bison 13-5 in the first half and 11-3 in the second half. Howard had a total of 14 fouls with two yellow cards and a red while Adelphi tallied 22 fouls with two yellows.
Panther keeper Thorne Holder collected two saves and recorded the shutout while Bison goalie, Bekoe made nine saves en route to the loss. Senior keepers Vincent Treglia and Matt Metzger also recorded some time in the game. Treglia made one save in 17:16 in net while Metzger saw 16:31.
