The Adelphi University volleyball team closed out the regular season on Thursday, November 6 by hosting East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Bridgeport. The Panther dropped games one and four but pulled out a 15-13 fifth game win to pick up a 3-2 win. With the victory Adelphi closes out the regular season with a record of 26-10 overall and 11-5 in ECC play, while Bridgeport ends up 23-12 overall and 11-5 in conference action.
Adelphi and Bridgeport were knotted at 12 in game one before the Purple Knights used a 7-1 run to move out to a 19-13 lead on the way to a 25-19 win. The second game was all Adelphi, as the Panthers out scored Bridgeport 13-3 in the early going and picked up a 25-13 victory.
The third game was more even as no one led by more then three points. An Adelphi attack error made it a one point game, 22-21, before an Audrey Goss kill pushed the cushion back to two points and helped the Panthers to a 25-22 win and 2-1 lead. Bridgeport used an early 8-3 run to collect a 25-20 game four win and force a fifth and final game.
In the fifth game the Purple Knights built a 5-1 lead before Adelphi stormed back with a 6-1 run, sparked by a Kelsey Hackett kill, knotted the game at seven. From there the Panthers scored eight of the final 14 points to collect a 15-13 win.
Hackett led all players with 14 kills, while Patawe Simms and Goss chipped in 13 apiece. Heather Mau had a game-high 47 assists, while Amy Williams had 24 digs and Samantha Johnston contributed 18.
Adelphi will return to action in the first round of the East Coast Conference tournament.
