Volleyball Tripped Up By C.W. Post, 3-1

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to cross town rival, C.W. Post on Tuesday, November 4 in the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Panthers took game one, 25-21, but dropped the next three game (13-25, 23-25, 20-25), falling 3-1. The loss drops Adelphi to 25-10 overall and 10-5 in the East Coast Conference, while C.W. Post moves to 14-12 overall and 9-6 in conference play.

Adelphi controlled game one from the start, moving out to an early 9-4 lead and then using a Kelsey Hackett ace to secure a 17-11 advantage on the way to a 25-21 win. The Pioneers turned the tables in game two, turning a 10-4 early game run into a 25-13 victory.

C.W. Post opened another lead in the third game, 7-4 and led 24-20 down the stretch before the Panthers reeled off three straight points to pull within one, 24-23. However a Laura Maehlmann kill gave the Pioneers a 25-23 win and a 2-1 edge. The fourth game was a back and forth affair that saw 10 ties. Adelphi pulled to within one, 21-20 but could not get any closer, falling 25-20.

Hackett led all players with 13 kills, while Amy Williams picked up 14 digs. Jennifer McKenna and Samantha Johnston also posted double digit dig totals with 12 and 11 respectively, while Heather Mau had a game-high 34 assists.

Adelphi returns to action in their regular season finale on Thursday, November 6 when they play host to Bridgeport at 7:00 pm.
