Women's Basketball Halted By St. Rose, 66-44

Garden City, N.Y. - Senior Serita Lee recorded a game-high 19 points and 17 rebounds but it was not enough as the Adelphi University women's basketball team fell to St. Rose, 66-44, tonight at the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Golden Knights improve to 5-0, while the Panthers fall to 3-1.

Both team seemed evenly matched in the first stanza with Adelphi shooting 35.5 percent from the field and pulling down 20 rebounds compared to St. Rose at 35.7 percent and 21 boards. The Golden Knights led by as much as eight points, 26-18, with 2:29 left in the half. Sophomore Ashley Caiafa scored four of her eight points down the stretch to help the Panthers close the gap. At intermission Adelphi trailed by three, 29-26.

The Panthers were unable to sustain the rally in the second half and went cold from the field. Adelphi did not score a basket until 13:17 which allowed St. Rose to go up by 10, 38-28. The Golden Knights got hot from beyond the arc, connecting on 5-for-10 as their margin grew to 17, 56-36, with 6:08 left on the clock. St. Rose shot 48 percent for the half and held on for the win. In contrast, the Panthers connected on just 5-of-24 from the field (20.8%) and were held scoreless from three-point range.

St. Rose had three players in double figures led by Dana Brown with 18, including 10-for-10 from the foul line. Elizabeth Buckley had 14 points and Ashley Anderson chipped in 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Adelphi returns to conference action next Wednesday, December 3, as they host the University of Bridgeport at 5:30 p.m.
