Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to Bloomfield College on Tuesday, November 25 in a non-conference clash. The Panthers held the visitors to just 17 percent shooting in the first half, building a 39-21 halftime lead that would turn into a 72-58 win. The victory raises Adelphi's record to 3-2 overall, while the Deacons are all even at 2-2.

Bloomfield opened up a quick 9-2 lead just two and a half minutes into play as Gage Daye scored seven of his 20 points. The Panthers responded with an 11-0 run that was capped by a Steffon Farley dunk and gave Adelphi a 13-9 lead with 13:13 left in the half.

Roahn Sheppard made three of four free throws over the next minute of play to pull the Deacons within one, 13-12. However the Panthers increased the pressure on the defensive end and would hold Bloomfield scoreless for the next nine minutes of play. During that stretch the Panthers scored 19 points, six of which were turned in by Casey Cosgrove as Adelphi held a 32-12 advantage with 3:29 to play and would take a 39-21 edge into the half.

Bloomfield came out of the break and attacked, scoring the first seven points of the half to move to within 11, 39-28, on a Omari Knox jumper. But, Adelphi responded again, using a 10-2 run that was sparked by an Alvin Vivican jumper to push the bulge back to 19 points, 49-30.

The Deacons would get no closer then 14 the rest of the way as the Panthers extended the lead to 20 points on two occasions, the last of which came with 3:44 to play when a Richard Byrd three from deep made the count 72-51.

Daye led three Deacons in double figures with 20 points as Sheppard chipped in 13 points and six rebounds and Knox added 10 points and six boards.

Byrd led all scorers with 24 points and pulled down nine Deacon misses, while Cosgrove posted 14 points and handed out five assists. Sky Khaleel and Farley had identical lines of nine points and eight rebounds in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on December 3 when they play host to East Coast Conference opponent Bridgeport at 7:30 pm.
