Men's Basketball Stopped By Stonehill, 70-61

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team traveled to Rockeville Centre, New York on Friday, November 21 to take on Northeast-10 foe Stonehill College in day on action at the Molloy Lions Classic. Despite a 17 point effort from Chris Diasparra the Panthers fell 71-60, dropping their overall record to 1-2.

Adelphi opened the game with an 11-4 run, that included two three-pointers from Diasparra, to take an early seven point lead. Stonehill battled back, getting within three, 14-11, before the Panthers used a David Akinyooye jumper and a Diasparra lay-up to stay in front by seven, 18-11.

The Skyhawks reacted with 10 straight points to take their first lead, 21-18 on a Matt Hall three-pointer. Adelphi snatched the lead back from Stonehill, 29-27, on a Casey Cosgrove jumper with 1:08 to play but entered the locker room down 32-29 courtesy of a Colin Scanlon three with one second left.

Stonehill scored the first five points of the second half to push their advantage to eight points, 37-29, with 18:21 on the clock. From there the Skyhawk lead grew to as many as 17 points, before the Panthers pulled it back to seven 68-61, on a Cosgrove triple with 57 seconds left. But that was as close as Adelphi would get, falling 71-60.

Diasparra led the Panthers with 17, while Sky Khaleel chipped in 13 points and added four rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on November 22 in the second day of the Molly Lions Classic against Pace University.
