Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University soccer team played host to Princeton University on October 8 at the Outdoor Sports Complex. The Panthers took an early 1-0 lead, only to see the Tigers knot the game at two in the second half before prevailing, 2-1 in overtime. The win raises Adelphi's overall record to 6-4, while Princeton to 2-7-1.

Adelphi struck first when Kemalie Preston moved through the Princeton defense and slotted a ball to a waiting Patrick Figueiredo who sent it past Princeton goalie Sean Lynch and into the back of the Tiger net. Figueiredo's strike gave Adelphi a 1-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

Princeton answered back in the second half when Antoine Hoppenot took control of a Matt Callahan feed 20 yards outside the box and struck a ball that beat Adelphi's Thorne Holder, knotting the game at one. The Tigers and Adelphi had several chances down the stretch but neither team could convert, forcing overtime.

Just 2:59 into the overtime period Adelphi was pressuring the Princeton defense when a Panther player was dragged down in the box, earning a penalty kick. Figueiredo netted the kick, securing a 2-1 win for the Panthers.

Holder made eight saves in the win, while Lynch picked up one for Princeton, who out shot Adelphi 18-10.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, October 10 when they play host to Atlantic Soccer Conference opponent Houston Baptist.
