Box Score

Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to Brookville, New York to take on the Pioneers of C.W. Post this afternoon. Despite a two goal effort by freshman Jessica Mulhern, a three goal deficit proved too much to overcome as the Pioneers took the win, 4-3. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 2-5 while C.W. Post advances to 8-4 on the year.

C.W. Post struck first on a cross from Amy Lillis to Krystal Napolitano who found the back of the net just 7:42 into the first half. The Panthers responded about seven minutes later when Mulhern got a feed from freshman Jeanette Heimerle and beat the keeper to knot the game at one. Before the first half's end, the Pioneers would net another goal by Amanda Miller and head into the second half up 2-1.

Seventeen minutes into the second half, C.W. Post extended their lead with the help of Napolitano getting her second goal. The Pioneers continued to put pressure on the Panther defense, and less than three minutes later, Amanda Nann furthered the lead to three. Despite the 4-1 hole Adelphi was in, they did not give up. In the 63rd minute, Mulhern sparked a late rally by notching her second goal of the game to cut the lead to two. With time running out late in the 68th minute, freshman Theresa Murphy brought her team within one goal of the Pioneers. However, the clock got the best of the Panthers as time ran out and delivered them their fifth loss of the season.

The Pioneers outshot the Panthers 19-6 and had a heavy advantage in penalty corners, 13-3. Post keeper Cortney Colern made three saves in net while Jacqueline Grant 67:34 minutes and tallied nine saves.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, October 12 when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Rams at noon.
