Women's Soccer Shuts Out Molloy, 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - For the fourth time this season, sophomore Brianne McDonnell tallied the game-winning goal to lift the Adelphi University women's soccer team to a 1-0 conference win over Molloy College this afternoon at Competition Field. The Panthers improve to 7-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the ECC. The Lions fall to 4-4-1 and 2-2-0 in league play.

Today's game was the first in a series of "Think Pink" games that Adelphi Athletics will host amongst is fall sports teams. Both teams warmed up in "Think Pink" t-shirts and Jennifer Montgomery sang the national anthem prior to the start of the game.

Adelphi dominated the first half of play, outshooting Molloy, 7-1. However neither team managed to score as they game went into intermission knotted at zero.

Eight minutes into the second half, senior Lauren Slattery sent a nice ball through Molloy's defense that McDonnell ran on to and found herself one-on-one with the goalie. She slipped the ball past Christina Aquilon and into the back of the net at 52:37. The Panthers continued to control the tempo of the game and held on for the win.

Freshman Dorothy Connolly made two stops in goal. A late collison with a Molloy player took Connolly temporarily out of commission and sophomore Angela Matinale finished the final 3:45 in goal to preserve the win. Aquilon had five saves for Molloy.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 8, as they travel to Concordia College for a 4:00 pm contest.
