Volleyball Falls to Dowling, Tops Umass-Lowell

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Oakdale, New York to take on Dowling and Umass-Lowell in non-conference action on Saturday, October 4. The Panthers took on Dowling in their first contest of the day, falling 3-0, but bounced back to pick up a 3-1 win over Umass-Lowell.

Adelphi fell, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-19 to Dowling as Samantha Johnston and Hilary Pavels led the way with nine kills each. Pavels added 11 digs, while Amy Williams picked up 13 and Heather Mau had 30 assists.

The Panthers and the Riverhawks went back and forth in the first two games, as Adelphi collected a 25-23 win in game one and Umass-Lowell knotted things at one game apiece with a 26-24 game two victory. But the Panthers turned it on in game three and four, closing the match out with wins of 25-17 and 25-19.

Johnston registered a game-high 17 kills and added 19 digs, while Williams posted an impressive 29 digs. Mau tossed up 50 assists as both Kelsey Hackett and Kathleen Carney reached double digits in kills with 11 and 14.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, October 7 when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut for a 7:00 pm East Coast Conference meeting with Bridgeport.
