The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to participate in the East Stroudsburg Tournament on October 24 and 25. The Panthers picked up wins over the host Warriors and Bowie State, improving to 22-8 overall.
In their only game on Friday, October 24 Adelphi took on Umass-Lowell, falling in five games. It was a very back and forth affair as Umass-Lowell won games one (18-25) and three (23-25) and Adelphi captured games two (25-15) and four (25-20). However the Riverhawks won the critical fifth game, 11-15.
Five Panthers posted double figure kill totals, led by Samantha Johnston with 13. Amy Williams had a team-high 29 digs, while Heather Mau picked up 43 assists in the loss.
In the Panthers second game of the tournament East Stroudsburg took Adelphi to four games, 25-16, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-14. In the win Adelphi was led by Kathleen Carney's 14 kills and Johnston's 13, while Williams had 20 digs and Mau tossed in 48 assists.
Adelphi really came alive in their third game of the weekend, making quick work of Bowie State, 25-23, 25-6 and 25-9. Kelsey Hackett led the way offensively with seven kills, while Williams was tops on the team in digs again with 11 and Mau had 21 assists.
The Panthers return to action on October 28 when they play host to Dowling College at 7:00 pm.
