Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - Sophomore Brianne McDonnell scored the game winner 17 seconds into the contest as the Adelphi University women's soccer team cruised past Mercy College, 7-0, in the regular season home finale. The Panthers improve to 12-3-1 and 6-1-1 in the ECC, while the Mavericks drop to 1-8-2 and 0-6-2 in league play.

Prior to the start of the game, Adelphi recognized its five graduating seniors Theresa Ennis, Erin Klimkowski, Amanda Herrera, Amanda Rodriguez and Lauren Slattery. Over the past three plus years, they have helped the Panthers to a 44-15-9 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances and an ECC title.

McDonnell's free kick in the 20th minute was headed in by junior Kayte Kinsley to push the lead to 2-0. Klimkowski and freshman Danielle Bottaro chipped in back to back goals to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Klimkowsk scored again early in the second half on a feed by McDonnell at 51:00. Just over a minute later junior Caitlin Morrison made it 6-0 as McDonnell provided her third assist of the game. Junior Emily Dunne had the last word on an unassisted shot at 68:55.

Adelphi dominated the game on both end. They held the Mavericks without a shot while the Panthers had 25. AU also held a 9-0 corner kick advantage.

Freshman Dorothy Connolly and sophomore Angela Matinale split time in the net but were unchallenged. Jackie Roebuck had seven saves for Mercy.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, October 28, as they travel to Sparkill, New York to take on St. Thomas Aquinas.
