Panthers Cruise Past Lions in Three

Garden City, N.Y. - On Tuesday, October 21, the Panther volleyball team traveled to Rockville Centre, New York to take on the Lions of Molloy College in an ECC scheduled matchup. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they tamed the Lions in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 to pick up their eighth conference win of the season. Their record improves to 19-7 overall, 8-3 in ECC play while Molloy falls to 6-17, 3-9 in ECC action.

Adelphi dominated from the start by outhitting, committing fewer errors, and tallying a higher hitting percentage compared to the Lions. In the first set, en route to their 25-14 romp, the Panthers had seven more kills (12-5), three less errors (4-7) and hit .242 as a team. The second set proved similar to the first as the upper hand was had by the Panthers in kills (12-6), errors (4-6) and hitting percentage (.233-.000) which helped them take the second set of the match, 25-17.

In the final set, the Panthers continued to show why they're one of the top schools in the conference by posting a team game high of 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .270 going on to win the match in 25-17 fashion.

Senior outside hitter, Samantha Johnston, recorded a game high 11 kills while junior Audrey Goss and sophomore Hilary Pavels trailed close behind with eight and seven kills respectively. Game highs also came from sophomore setter, Heather Mau with 28 kills and junior libero Amy Williams with 16 digs.

Up next, the Panthers will travel to Dobbs Ferry, New York to take on Mercy College in an ECC matchup on Thursday, October 23 at 7 pm.
