The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to Syracuse, New York on Tuesday, October 21 to take on Syracuse University in a non-conference match-up. The Panthers got on the board first and knotted the game at two, but could not pull out the win, falling 3-2. The loss snaps the Panthers nine game win streak and drops Adelphi to 9-5.
The Panthers struck first when Patrick Figueiredo notched his 12th goal of the season in the 10th minute off of a Val Charalambous assist, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead. Syracuse knotted the game at one in the 26th minute when Spencer Schomaker hooked up with Kyle Hall.
In the 60th minute Schomaker found the back of the Adelphi net for the second time in the game, this time assisted by Karol Wasielewski to put the Orange on top 2-1. Two minutes later John Koutsounadis responded, beating Syracuse goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia to pull Adelphi even at two goals apiece.
Unfortunately the Panther lead was short lived as Syracuse beat Adelphi's Thorne Holder for the third time as Schomaker scored his third goal of the game, giving the Orange a 3-2 win.
Syracuse out shot Adelphi, 11-6 with Holder making four saves in the loss.
Adelphi returns to action on November 1 when they travel to Farmville, Virgina to take on Longwood in an Atlantic Soccer Conference contest.
