Box Score
Chicopee, MA -
The Panthers traveled to Chicopee, Massachusetts this afternoon to take on the Yellow Jackets of American International College in their second to last game of the season. Adelphi fell behind early on and then let up a goal late in the first half to head into halftime down 2-0, which would remain until the end of the game. With the loss, the Panthers fall to 2-7 while AIC advances to 5-13.
The Yellow Jackets came out very aggressive at the commencement of the match as senior Jacki Lapointe started the action when she found the back of the net just 3:42 into the game to give her team the early 1-0 lead. The score would remain unchanged until just 1:02 left to play in the half when freshman Linsey Fernandes netted her first goal of the match to send the Panthers into the second half down by two.
The second half proved to be better as the Panthers got off more shots and had more penalty corner opportunities than in the first half, but it was just not enough to get out of the 2-0 hole. The second 35 minutes would see no change in the game’s score and as time wore down, Adelphi saw their seventh loss of the season.
The Panthers were out shot 15-9 while tallying five penalty corners to AIC’s nine. Freshman goalie Jacqueline Grant collected 10 saves for Adelphi while freshman Kim Steiner made just one save to record the shutout.
The Panthers return to action in their last match of the season as they play host to Seton Hill University on Monday, October 20th at 1:00 pm.
