Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's soccer team played host to NJIT on Saturday, October 28 in Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) action. The Panthers scored in the first five minutes of action and never let up, picking up their ninth win in a row, 2-0. The win raises Adelphi's overall record to 9-4 and 2-0 in the ASC, while NJIT falls to 1-12-1 and 0-3 in the conference.

The Panthers pressured NJIT early and it paid off just 3:20 into the action as Patrick Figueiredo collected a loose ball inside the Highlander box and slotted it past NJIT's Ryan Sutherland for a 1-0 lead. Adelphi kept the pressure up the rest of the half, out shooting the Highlanders, 10-5 but couldn't notch another goal.

In the 70th minute Stephen Fregosi gave Adelphi some breathing room as he took a beautiful cross from Val Charalambous and on the bouce struck a ball that moved past Sutherland and into the upper left corner of the net. Fregosi's goal made the score 2-0, which would be the final margin of victory.

Sutherland kept the Highlanders in the game, making several tough saves, including a point blank diving stop of a hard Figueiredo shot in the second half to keep the score 1-0.

Overall Sutherland made nine stops in the loss, while Holder collected five in the win, his ninth since stepping into the Panther net.

Adelphi returns to action on October 21 when they travel to Syracuse, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with the Orange.
