The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Old Westbury, New York on Tuesday, October 14 for an East Coast Conference meeting with NYIT. The Panthers trailed 2-1 after three games, but rallied to win the next two and earned a 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 11-15 ) match victory. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Bears who fall to 9-20 on the season and 5-5 in the league, while Adelphi improves to 18-7 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
The Panthers erased a 14-10 deficit in game one by scoring nine unanswered points, including seven consecutive service points from Heather Mau. The Bears pulled to within 16-19 on a kill by Rebecca Lowe, but Adelphi responded by scoring six of the next seven points to earn the 25-17 win.
The Bears regained the momentum by squeaking out a 25-22 win in the second game behind Ali Falbo's five kills. NYIT jumped out to a big 8-2 lead in the third game before picking up a 25-19 win.
The Panthers regained control of the match with a 25-17 win in game four as Samantha Johnston recorded five kills and Adelphi never trailed in the fifth and deciding game, holding on for the 15-11 win.
Both Johnston and Kathleen Carney registered double digit kills as Carney posted 15 and Johnston picked up a game-high 18 to go along with 17 digs. Amy Williams led the Panthers with 18 digs, while Mau collected 45 assists.
Adelphi returns to action on October 21 when they travel to Rockville Centre, New York for a 7:00 pm meeting with Molloy.
