The Adelphi University men's soccer team traveled to New York, New York on October 15 to take on Columbia University. The Panthers knotted the game at one late in the first half and then notched the game winner just 1:31 into overtime to collect the 2-1 win. With the win Adelphi improves to 8-4 overall, while Columbia falls to 3-7-1.
After a scoreless first half the Lions opened up the scoring at the 67:11 mark of the second period. Pepe Carotenuto took a corner kick and struck the ball toward the Panther net, Ryan Scully managed to get a head on it and sent the ball into the Adelphi goal from 15 yards out.
The Panthers knotted the game at one just 10 minutes later on a corner kick of their own. Val Charalambous sent the ball into the Columbia box where Kris Nosworthy collected it and beat Alex Aurrichio.
The score remained 1-1, forcing a very short overtime, thanks to Alex Kouznetsov. Kouznetsov took the ball from a Lion defender and notched the game winner from 20 yards out, slotting the ball far post from the right side.
Adelphi's Thorne Holder made two saves in the win, while Aurrichio picked up seven saves.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 18 when they play host to NJIT at 7:00 pm in Garden City, New York.
