The Adelphi University field hockey team suffered a tough 3-1 at Philadelphia University this afternoon. The Lady Rams win their second straight to improve to 5-10, while the Panthers fall to 2-6.
The Lady Rams took a 1-0 lead early in the first period as junior Leah Arthur got an unassisted score. Senior Pam Koons followed up with her first goal of the year, and the ultimate game-winner, at the 32:02 mark to take a 2-0 lead.
Junior Lauren Piontkowski added an insurance goal at 52:27 in the second period to make it a 3-0 tally, but the Panthers broke their silence with a score from freshman Jeanette Heimerle with just three minute remaining.
Senior goalie Anne Strobel had four saves in goal for the Lady Rams, while freshman Jacqueline Grant, who was faced with 16 shots by PhilaU, had 12 stops for the Panthers.
Adelphi returns to action next Saturday, October 18 as they travel to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on American International at 12:00 p.m.
