Adelphi Women Fall to Molloy, 58-43

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball trailed by nine at the half and were unable to recover, falling to Molloy College, 58-43, on Saturday afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improve to 8-9 overall and 7-4 in the ECC, while the Panthers fall to 8-10 and 6-5 in the conference.

Senior Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) was the only Panther in double figuers with 11 points. Junior Serita Lee (Freeport, N.Y.) had nine points and five rebounds.

Senior Mary Lepore opened the game with a trifecta to register her 1,000th career point. She would finish with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Panthers maintained their three point lead through the 16:55 mark, 10-7, but the Lions pulled ahead for good on a layup by Katelyn Dunn at 14:39. Up 13-12, Molloy surged ahead on a 10-2 run to extend its lead to nine, 23-14, with 7:25 left in the first half. Junior Danielle Parks (Galloway, N.J.) made it a five-point game on a basket with 5:34 to go, but Molloy still managed to lead, 31-23, going into the locker room.

The Lions kept the Panthers at bay in the second half, pushing their lead to 17 points, 49-34, with 3:11 left in regulation. Adelphi did get a surge from the bench early in the half with senior Ashley Andrews (Hempstead, N.Y.) tallying a career-best three blocks to go along with three rebounds.

Molloy shot 44.2 percent in the game, compared with 34 percent by Adelphi. The Panthers held a slight 35-33 advantage on the boards.

The Lions were led by Kymira Woodberry with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dunn had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, January 30, as they host NYIT at 5:30 p.m. As part of the Panthers 2007-08 promotional schedule, they will highlight international students by recognizing them during the game and hanging flags in Woodruff Hall Gymnasium.
