Men's Basketball Falls to C.W. Post, 61-49

Brookville, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team traveled to Brookville, New York on Wednesday, January 23 to take on cross town rival C.W. Post in an East Coast Conference contest. The Panthers outscored the Pioneers, 28-27, in the second half but it was not enough to overcome a 34-21 haltime deficit, giving C.W. Post a 61-49 victory. The loss drops Adelphi to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in the ECC, while C.W. Post improves to 15-2 overall and 10-0 in the conference.

Adelphi kept the game close early, knotting the contest at 13 with 7:22 to play in the first on a Richard Byrd free throw. C.W. Post closed the half with a 21-8 run to enter the intermission with a 13 point lead, 34-21.

The Pioneers opened the second half with a three-pointer to push their edge to 16 points, 37-21. From there C.W. Post applied more pressure, moving out to their largest lead of the game, 50-32, on a lay-up with 11:35 left in the half. From there Adelphi would chip away at the lead but could get no closer then 12, falling 61-49.

Jonathan Schmidt led all players with 21 points and added eight rebounds and five assists. Brandon Butler also reached double figures, scoring 18 points.

Alvin Vivican led the Panthers with 15 points, while Chris Diasparra added eight points and nine rebounds. Byrd chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 26 when they travel to Rockville Centre, New York to take on Molloy.
