Men's Basketball Shoots Down Franklin Pierce, 63-60

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team played host to Northeast-10 opponent Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday, January 2 in Woodruff Hall. A three-pointer by Chris Diasparra with 55 seconds put Adelphi up four and secured a 63-60 win. The victory raises Adelphi's overall record to 6-4, while Franklin Pierce falls to 5-7.

The Ravens took advantage of a slow starting Panther squad, opening up a 12-3 edge just 4:11 into the action. Adelphi answered back with a resounding 27-4 run that lasted over 10 minutes and was capped by three straight Alvin Vivican three-pointers, giving the Panthers a 30-16 edge.

Franklin Pierce chipped away at the Panther bulge, cutting the margin to just six, 34-28, with 1:37 to play, before entering the half trailing by seven, 36-29.

The second half was back and forth early, with Franklin Pierce unable to pull closer then four and trailing by seven, 47-40, with 14:04 remaining. However from there the Ravens used a 9-0 run to take a 49-47 led with 10:11 to play thanks to a Terrell Ray free throw.

Adelphi responded with a 10-1 run to take a seven point edge, 57-50 with 5:20 left in the game. Franklin Pierce would not go quietly, using a 8-0 run, capped off by a Kinard Dozier three-point play, to take what would prove to be their last lead of the game, 58-57, with 3:29 on the clock.

A Richard Byrd jumper gave the Panthers a one point lead with 1:47 left. Diasparra's three-pointer with 55 seconds remaining gave the Panthers a three-point cushion, 62-60, on the way to a 63-60 win.

Kinard Dozier led the Ravens with 14 points and added three assists, while Ray chipped in 12 points and four rebounds. Rimas Varanauskas added 10 points.

Vivican led the way for Adelphi with 24 points, while teammate Sky Khaleel scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists.
